Barbara Beard Cohen, LCSW-C, is a licensed certified social worker-clinical.
Barbara specializes in the psychological aspects of reproductive health issues and third party reproduction. Her experience in infertility and adoption are on both professional and personal levels. She has been in the counseling field since 1974, earning a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning in 1987. Her work has focused on infertility and third party reproduction, surrogacy, crisis intervention, and adoption.
In addition to her affiliation with the Center for Surrogate Parenting, Barbara maintains a private practice in Annapolis, Maryland located at Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Medical Park. She provides consultation or therapy for individuals and couples that are dealing with infertility or are exploring their parenting options. She does screening and assessments, along with matching and on-going psychological support for donors and recipients in egg, sperm, embryo donation, and surrogacy. Barbara provides consultation and staff training for fertility clinics, and has been a consultant to RESOLVE and is a professional member of the Mental Health Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Barbara lives near Annapolis, Maryland with her husband. They have three children who are now young adults.
