John Whitney

Senior Manager of Third-Party Reproduction

A skilled program and product developer with more than a decade of hands-on IVF lab experience, John Whitney has spent his career expanding his expertise in the science and management of all aspects of fertility care. Having held leadership roles in both IVF and genetics laboratories, as well as in egg donation and cryopreservation services, John is dedicated to creating efficient, effective third-party reproduction solutions to help more people create their families.

John began his career in fertility care as an embryologist, spending more than a decade working in an IVF laboratory, advancing the science of third-party reproduction and teaching blastocyst biopsy techniques worldwide. He joined the business development team of Ovation® Fertility in 2016, where he helped develop Ovation Genetics into its current role as an industry leader. In 2017, Ovation enlisted John’s program development skills to build Ovation’s Donor Services program from the ground up.

A year later, John took the lead overseeing another new program: Fertility Storage Solutions by Ovation, which includes cryostorage facilities within nine IVF labs and a dedicated off-site storage facility. In his senior leadership role, John managed a team of professionals overseeing storage, transport and alarm monitoring for all reproductive specimens stored within the Ovation network.

John has presented his research on improving outcomes utilizing PGT-A, embryology culture and morphology at multiple worldwide scientific events, including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine Scientific Congress and Expo (ASRM), European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology Annual Meeting (ESHRE), the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society Congress (PGDIS), and the Universal Egyptian Assisted Reproductive Technology Summit (UEARS).

John graduated from California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo, where he studied animal science and applied biotechnology. While a student, he worked for Santa Cruz Biotech in its polyclonal antibody production lab, then started his career in clinical human embryology after graduation. Early in his career, John was part of a group of thought leaders supported by Illumina Co. to educate and train other scientists on PGT-A embryology techniques.
