Exploring why some women love being pregnant
There are 3.7 billion females on the planet, and many of them are mothers. Last year, women gave birth to nearly 147 million children around the world. That equals around 17,000 births per hour, each day. Pregnancy is a unique experience for every woman. Just as there are no two women who are exactly alike, there are no two pregnancies that are identical. Some women love being pregnant, which is why they decide to become surrogates to help others.
Pregnancy, childbirth and old notions
Societal views through history haven’t changed much when it comes to women and childbirth. Even today, many women believe there is something wrong with them if they don’t feel the overwhelming desire to become a mother. What we now know is that those old notions are based on myths. Not every woman wishes to become a mother, and that’s okay.
Some women love being pregnant, while others do not. Not enjoying 9 months of gestation has nothing to do with a woman’s ability to love and care for her children once they are born, however. We’ve also learned that for a variety of reasons, not all women can become pregnant or carry a baby. Through research over the last few decades, there are options for those who wish to become mothers.
Additionally, a family doesn’t have to begin with a partnered woman and man. Women and men in nontraditional relationships are creating families as well. They are seeking surrogacy agencies to help them achieve their familial goals.
Woman who love being pregnant
Just as there are women who are not keen on pregnancy, there are those who love everything about it. During a normal pregnancy, there are a variety of issues that may appear Hormones play some weird tricks on the body. The issues are normal, but can be difficult to deal with.
Yet some women breeze through pregnancy without morning sickness or any other side effects. They love observing the way their body changes as the child grows inside them. Others enjoy their healthier eating habits. They feel the positive impact their baby is having on their overall health, with special bonuses like shinier hair and stronger nails. Some women love being pregnant.
Some women believe in the beauty of creating a child so much that they seek out the opportunity to carry a child for a couple or an individual who may not be able to do so themselves. After experiencing so much joy during their own pregnancies, they strongly desire to share that same joy with those who will never be able to have children without their help. In some cases, these women subject themselves to hormone injections and other invasive procedures to help a couple or individual have a child of their own.
Nevertheless, these women offer their bodies as a safe haven to people they do not know, with the promise of carrying this new life inside of them for nine months, until the day comes when the baby is placed in the loving arms of his or her parents. These women, known as surrogate mothers, not only understand pregnancy, but they also understand the struggles intended parents have faced through infertility, illness, or even societal constraints. Surrogacy is an act of selfless compassion and love.
The surrogate pregnancy
What makes a great surrogate mother? Each surrogacy agency has its own requirements, as does the Center for Surrogate Parenting. A woman who wishes to become a surrogate must pass a series of medical, psychological and financial screenings. But before she is tested, she must meet these basic requirements:
- Be between the ages of 21 and 42
- Has experienced childbirth as least once, and are currently raising that child
- A non-smoker
- Have a BMI (body mass index) of 31 or less
- Financially stable, receiving no governmental aid
- Free of taking anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication for at least a year
It’s important that a surrogate mother enjoys pregnancy, even when the child she is carrying is not hers. Medical practitioners have known for years that a positive outlook for the expectant mother increases the probability of a healthy baby and an easier birth. A surrogate mother’s pregnancy is monitored closely, and the findings are shared with the intended parent or parents, and there is little that they don’t know about her. It is a personal and committed relationship built on trust that often lasts long after the child is born.
