How to Become a Surrogate Mother
The Center for Surrogate Parenting (CSP) believes that surrogacy is a life-changing journey for everyone involved. The surrogacy process at our US surrogacy agency supports healthy women who are helping hopeful parents fulfill their dream of taking home a baby. If you are interested in how to become a surrogate mother, it’s very important to get a good understanding of each step of the commitment.
Starting the surrogacy process at CSP
The journey begins with you filling out a surrogate application on our website. Once your application is approved, a case coordinator will contact you to schedule a phone interview.
This call will cover CSP’s screening process, expectations and requirements. Because all CSP case coordinators are former surrogates themselves, this is a great time to ask any questions about our surrogacy program or the process in general. You will also have the chance to share your “wish list” of characteristics you’d like to see in the hopeful parents you choose to help.
Next, a counselor will interview you about your thoughts about becoming a surrogate mom, and a doctor will assess your overall physical health. Our national surrogacy program also encourages you to attend support group meetings with other surrogates from your area. At these wonderful meetings, you will get to know some amazing and selfless ladies just like you, who have stepped forward and offered to help.
The next step of the surrogacy process is working with your counselor to find the right match. You will be able to select from at least three hopeful parents, and you can choose one or more who you’d be willing to work with. When there is a potential match, you will meet the parents via Skype/Zoom/WeChat or in person. If all parties agree to work together, attorneys will prepare legal contracts. You will receive free legal support.

After finalizing the match, you’ll receive a health evaluation at the hopeful parent’s fertility clinic. Once you receive medical clearance, the clinic will give you a calendar for your medication cycle and a potential embryo transfer date. We’ll work closely with you to make sure you understand all the instructions. By this time, you and your partner have met your hopeful parents face-to-face.
The next exciting step in the surrogacy process is the embryo transfer, and if all goes well, a positive pregnancy test. You will receive care from the fertility clinic for a few weeks following the pregnancy confirmation. Then, you will switch back to your OBGYN, who will deliver the baby. We will help you and the baby’s parents decide which prenatal appointments the parents will attend, and how they will participate in the birth.
When it comes time to welcome new life into the world, the baby’s parents will be there for the birth. This is when you get to see the joy on their faces as they hold their child in their arms at last. This final part of the surrogacy process is a beautiful experience for everyone, and the most rewarding moment imaginable for a surrogate mom.
